Yigit Akar (CEO) and Alex Allen (CPO), Co-Founders of xWatts, met at the University of Cambridge. Their routes to this moment had taken them both through large corporates, trying to solve some of the largest energy challenges in Europe, but both were frustrated by the lack of innovation, speed and ambition these companies used to solve these challenges in a cost-effective method with rapid return on investment.

Yigit completed his masters in Electronics Engineering and Renewable Energy in Turkey, before moving to the UK in 2018 for his MBA, having previously worked across Europe and Turkey with a German energy company, commissioning large-scale wind and solar plants. Alex's research at Cambridge was focused on Building Energy Simulations. Prior to this he completed a Masters Degree in Computer Science and worked for over a decade working in control systems on large instracture projects.

Together, they felt there was a real opportunity to build something new. They had seen large, multi-million dollar projects that were missing huge opportunities in energy reduction through low-cost, low hanging fruit because they were chasing trophy deals rather than fixing root causes. Together, they developed a passion for tackling these energy challenges.

That “something” became xWatts, an intelligent energy management platform designed to reduce energy costs and emissions in large, complex estates and industrial facilities by 25–40%.

What makes xWatts different from other players in this space is that we don’t just report insights, but actively connect to energy systems, model the facility in real time and automatically optimise assets through the whole energy cycle from generation to demand - like HVAC, Solar, and CHP engines - as a whole system. In short, xWatts doesn’t just tell you what to do, but does it for you!
